A different chapter of Mercurial history. The Nike Air Zoom Mercurial Vapor XV SE "Retro" revisits the look of the 2001 Air Zoom Mercurial VT, an early expression of Nike's Alpha Project. Released in November 2022, this special edition brings that archive-inspired design to the modern Vapor XV rather than reproducing the original boot. The Alpha Project's signature five dots, each representing a letter in “Alpha”, appear on the heel and sockliner, connecting this release to Nike's athlete-led design programme.

The modern boot carries Zoom Air technology, with clear outsole panels revealing the cushioning units. “Zoom Air” lettering returns to the toebox in the position used on the original, alongside a smaller heel Swoosh and an iridescent heel finish. The low-cut silhouette and central lacing keep the Vapor identity intact. This Firm Ground (FG) version is intended for firm natural grass; it should not be confused with the mixed, removable-stud Variable Turf tooling of the 2001 inspiration.
