Where it all began. Released in 2018 as part of Nike's exclusive "Heritage Pack" via Nike iD, the Nike iD Mercurial Superfly VI "Heritage" 98' R9 is a faithful recreation of the most important colourway in Mercurial history — the iconic boot worn by Ronaldo (R9) at the 1998 FIFA World Cup France, the tournament where the Mercurial made its debut and changed football forever. As a Nike iD personalisation, it carries no official retail style code.
In 1998, Nike introduced the world to the Mercurial Vapor I — the lightest football boot ever made at the time, weighing just 200 grams. Worn by R9 in the iconic Metallic Silver/Blue colourway, the Mercurial announced itself to the world as Ronaldo tore through defences on his way to the Golden Boot, scoring 4 goals and finishing as the tournament's top scorer despite Brazil's heartbreaking final defeat to France. The Heritage Pack was available for a limited time in 2018 via Nike iD on both the Mercurial Vapor 12 and Mercurial Superfly VI platforms — bringing the 1998, 2006, and 2014 World Cup colourways back to life on the modern Superfly VI silhouette with its Dynamic Fit collar and Flyknit upper.
