Nike The 1971 Remake

Back to where it all started. Nike went back to where it all began and re-released their first attempt at creating a pair of football boots — the Nike 1971. This 2021 remake is a brand new example — style code DC9964-010 — a true collector's item available in only one size (US 9) and shipped in a weathered box.

The design stays simple and faithful to the original: a black leather upper with a white Nike Swoosh, and the graphic referencing the 1970 Mexico World Cup still present on the tongue and insole. The soleplate uses the classic 13 conical studs that were the standard for football cleats at the time. The original Nike 1971 was, famously, an extremely poor design — it sold for $16.95 on release and could not withstand wet or cold weather, so badly that Nike had to withdraw it from sale. The boots include a metal horseshoe, recalling a common practice used by Canada Footwear, the Mexico-based company that produced the original boot in 1971.
